Benefits of Radiation Therapy for Ocular Cancer

Radiation therapy is a proven treatment option with a low risk of complications

Learn About Ocular Cancer

Ocular cancer is a rare condition that affects the eyes and surrounding tissues

The term ocular cancer, or eye cancer, is used to cover many malignant conditions that can affect the eyes. Collections of cells grow and multiply abnormally, forming masses called ocular tumors.

The most common cancers affecting the eye do not start there. Instead, these cancers originate elsewhere in the body, especially the breasts and lungs, and spread to the eye.

Ocular cancer is rare. In fact, according to the American Cancer Society, there are only about 3,500 new cases diagnosed a year. There are often no early symptoms or warning signs, especially if the cancer is small and not located close to the vital structures of the eye. Eye cancer is most treatable when it is discovered early, so everyone should have a dilated eye exam once a year with an eye doctor.
