John Francis Gleason Jr, MD

Dr. John “Jack” Gleason, Jr. is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Phi Beta Kappa) and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine (Alpha Omega Alpha). He completed his internship and radiation oncology residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He served as chief resident in his final year of training. Dr. Gleason has presented at national meetings, been published in medical journals, and written book chapters on a variety of radiation oncology topics. His works have covered subjects such as imaging in modern radiation oncology, the role of radiation for sarcomas, neoadjuvant approaches to head and neck cancer, quality of life issues related to the treatment of brain tumors, and the treatment of multiple brain metastases using stereotactic radiation (SRS).

Dr. Gleason joined Alliance Cancer Care in 2013. He treats a wide variety of cancer types and currently serves as medical director for Alliance Cancer Care services across North Alabama. He is a an active member of the Huntsville Hospital Committee on Cancer and participates weekly in the Huntsville Hospital Tumor Board and the Huntsville Hospital Breast Conference. Dr. Gleason is also the founding medical director of the Novalis® Certified Alliance Radiosurgery Program and has extensive experience in the use of stereotactic radiation for the treatment of malignancies of the brain, spine, lung, and liver, among others.

Dr. Gleason and his wife Margaret are both natives of Louisville, Kentucky. They have twins John and Eleanor and enjoy being involved in numerous community activities and organizations. Dr. Gleason is an avid reader of history and fiction and a faithful supporter of the North Carolina Tar Heels. He is frequently found hiking the trails of North Alabama.
