Learn About Gynecological Cancer

Early detection is key to successful treatment and recovery

Gynecological cancer is any cancer that starts in a woman’s reproductive organs. Gynecological cancers begin in different places within a woman’s pelvis, and include cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, vaginal cancer, and vulvar cancer.

Of all the gynecological cancers, only cervical cancer has screening tests that can find cancer early, when treatment can be most effective. There is also a vaccine that can prevent 99% of cervical cancers, and also prevents other HPV mediated cancers. Since gynecological cancers are hard to screen for, it is especially important for women to recognize warning signs, like bleeding or pain with intercourse, and have regular exams with their doctor.

Radiation therapy is often used to treat gynecological cancers. Treatment depends on the kind of gynecological cancer, if it has spread, and how far it has spread. Two main types of radiation therapy are used to treat gynecologic cancers, external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy). At Alliance Cancer Care, we offer both types of radiation treatments, and will customize our recommendations to each patient’s individual needs and risks.

Safe, Effective, and Personalized

Non-invasive cancer treatment for women's reproductive health

Effective Cancer Treatment
Radiation therapy is a highly effective way to treat gynecological cancers, including cervical, endometrial, vaginal and vulvar cancers. It uses high-energy radiation to target and destroy cancer cells, shrink tumors, and reduce the risk of cancer recurrence
Treatment Where It Counts
Modern radiation therapy uses technology to target cancer cells while avoiding damage to surrounding healthy tissue, improving outcomes. Brachytherapy, or internal radiation, can be delivered directly to the area of concern which is key for successful treatment
Minimizes Side Effects
Compared with other forms of cancer treatment, radiation therapy often causes fewer and less severe side effects. Additionally, as an outpatient treatment, radiation therapy can help women maintain their independence and continue with their daily activities during treatment
