As a man diagnosed with prostate cancer, deciding which treatment option is best for you is of utmost concern. If you are like most men, you will consider numerous factors. While your physician’s recommendation does play an important role in the treatment decision, in the end, you need to make the choice that is best for you.

That choice is often based on treatment outcomes and side effects, and because the prostate is so close to several vital structures, disruption to normal urinary, bowel, and sexual function may be a primary consideration for you.

Understanding Prostate Cancer

1 in 8 American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime

The prostate is a small walnut-shaped gland in males that uses male hormones called androgens, such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), to trigger and maintain male sex characteristics and reproduction. Prostate cancer begins when cells in the prostate gland start to grow out of control.

Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men. According to the American Cancer Society, about one man in eight will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime.

In many cases, prostate cancer is a slow-growing cancer that does not spread beyond the prostate gland before the time of diagnosis. However, some cases are more aggressive and need more urgent treatment. Prostate cancer that is detected early, when it is still confined to the prostate gland, has the best chance for successful treatment.

Safe, Effective, and Personalized

Effectively eliminate prostate cancer with minimal side effects

Outpatient Procedure, No Anesthesia or Hospitalization Required
Radiation therapy for prostate cancer is an outpatient procedure, which means that patients do not need to be hospitalized or undergo general anesthesia. This is a major benefit of radiation therapy as it allows patients to continue with their daily activities during the course of treatment. Furthermore, there is no need for recovery time after each session, which means that patients can return to work or other activities immediately
Noninvasive, No Incisions Needed
Radiation therapy is a noninvasive treatment option for prostate cancer, meaning that there are no incisions or surgical cuts required. This eliminates the risk of infection or other complications associated with surgery and also means that patients will not have visible scars. Additionally, noninvasive treatment options like radiation therapy are associated with less pain and a faster recovery time than invasive procedures
Equally Effective As Surgery
Clinical trials have confirmed that prostate cancer outcomes are equivalent with either surgery or radiation treatment. The side effects differ, and are generally minor and can be easily managed with over the counter medications.
