Dr. Tres Childs feels oncology is one of the most exciting medical fields because of the tremendous strides being made in innovative technology and cancer treatments. Having completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, he was particularly drawn to radiation oncology because of the blend of technology and direct patient care that is unique to this practice. His greatest enjoyment, however, is providing personalized cancer care, as well as support, counseling and guidance to his patients and their families throughout the treatment process.
Dr. Tres Childs received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine where he graduated with honors in Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Society. He completed his internship at Baptist Medical Centers in Birmingham and continued his residency at the University of Alabama Hospitals Department of Radiation Oncology, where he served as Chief Resident for one year. During this time, Dr. Childs received the U.A.B. Award of Excellence for Exemplary Commitment to Caring, was the recipient of the ACRO Fellowship Grant Award, and served on the House Staff Council for Radiation Oncology. He then graduated from U.A.B. as a board-certified radiation oncologist.
Dr. Childs is extremely involved in the local community, serving on several boards, including Huntsville Hospital Foundation and the Jeanne Shepherd Foundation. He is also a member of the Medical Association for the State of Alabama, the Madison County Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the Southern Medical Association, the American College of Radiology, and the American Brachytherapy Society. Dr. Childs lives in Huntsville with his four daughters.
